Well it was a great night last night celebrating both the A and B team wins, but as always it was up bright and breezy for another day of netball. This time the B team had a rest after their 3 games in a row (the rest was really needed) and the A team faced Shamrock.
We didnt do much during the day apart from training for an hour followed by a game of polo in the pool. It always helps to blow the cobwebs away! It was a tense day as we knew that if the A team beat Shamrock they could be 3rd place in the tournament and face X-Ceed again. However if they came 4th, they would face Digicel Elite! A prospect no one really wanted to think about!
The game started well and the Navy A Team looked really good and controlled. However, like all of the Carribean teams here, Shamrock increased the pace and applied the pressure and drew away to leave the quarter score at 7-12. The A team put all their energy into the next quarter and decreased the deficit by one goal leaving the half time score at 16-20. Our fitness in the heat was always going to be a problem out here but despite this, we played our hearts out and kept pace with them up and down the court. However, their sheer power and athleticism overtook us and we lost the 3rd quarter 23-33. They were pulling away and our tiredness was beginning to show. We played some of our best netball but it was no match for this superior team. We rested our players by bringing in a B team player (well done Sarah Timms) and she held her own on the court in Wing Defence and brought some fresh energy into the game. Unfortunately this was not enough and we lost the game 30-41. It was a fantastic game and one we should be proud of. We played well as a team which is the most important thing for us here. We put pressure on their attack and got some great interceptions; they were just better than us.
Shamrock were a great team and a good sport as you can see from the picture below. We still have a chance in the Tournament for the A team to be placed and continue to fight in the play-offs. The B team have lost a good player in Sarah Timms so will not win their games, but will have a great experience ready for the inter services in the spring. Keep looking out for us on here and keep wishing us luck. The fight is not over!!!
