st lucia day 11
30 July 2010

What news!!  It is so unbelievable!

We got to the court today for our semi-final match against Digicel Elite.  The tournament venue had changed to an outside court and it had been raining all day.  We got here and the court was pretty waterlogged but with some sweeping we managed to make it a little less dangerous.

Then just as we had finished, the sky opened up and it began to rain.  It was so hard and we could see it coming over the mountain from the coast.  The sky was black and the court was unusable.

The tournament officials decided to hold a meeting.  We knew we would not beat Digicel so were happy to forfeit the game and give them the win.  Unfortunately we did not have enough time over the weekend to re-schedule all of the games.  We thought Shamrock would do the same with X-Ceed; that way we would play the final tomorrow between Digicel Elite and X-Ceed.  We would play tomorrow against Shamrock for 3rd/4th place.  It seemed pretty logical to us.  However, the tournament officials were not happy to accept that Digicel and X-Ceed would be in the final.  They were of the opinion that anything could happen on the day.  So, guess what they decided?

They cancelled the tournament and gave us the placings from the games already played!!  We couldnt believe it!  We really wanted to play Shamrock for 3rd place (we were currently placed 4th).  We did feel a little deflated although we could understand that some of the games could not be re-scheduled and anything could happen in a game.

We asked Shamrock for a friendly so that although we were placed 4th in the tournament we could see if we could have come 3rd.  They had already been given the 3rd position in the tournament so they had nothing to lose and agreed.  So that is how things ended today.  We are 4th in the tournament and are playing Shamrock tomorrow in a friendly to see if we could have been 3rd.  We dont really know what else to say!

So, our night ended a little confused.  But, after a Thai meal in the local restaurant and a couple of drinks we settled down for an early night and our friendly game tomorrow.  Wish us luck!
