Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in writing this but the tournament got a bit hectic and the games were late! A poor excuse we know! Well, losing to Shamrock was a real dissappointment. We knew that if we beat them we would face X-Ceed in the tournament and although they are very good - we may have had a chance! Now we know we face Digicel Elite; we still have to beat Eagles though. We spent the day pretty confident that we would beat Eagles but as always in sport you never know what will happen. The B team found out that they were allowed to play Sarah Timms as long as she didnt take the court for the A team again so that was a real boost and we felt that the game against Avengers would be close now. We were quite nervous throughout the day as we knew these games would mean a lot to the result in the tournament. It was difficult to concentrate on anything so we were all quiet and subdued. Some of us went to the mall to finish getting the souveniers and some of us had a game of water polo in the pool. Our games started with Navy A -vs- Eagles at 1700. As always out here, the game started a little late (1745) and it got off to a great start for the Navy. At the end of the first quarter we were leading 9-7, but our defence wasnt as strong as we wanted. Sarah Timms came on the court in WD position and worked well with the A team to maintain the lead at 17-15. The Navy then hit hard and began to pull away leaving the 3rd quarter score at 33-18. There was nothing the Eagles could do at this point and although they scored 10 good goals in the final quarter, the Navy A won the match 44-28. This was the first time the Eagles had entered the St Lucia Tournament and they put up a good fight. They were a lovely team to play and over the previous 9 days we have built up a good rapport with them. They support us in all our matches and so it was with a little reluctance that we celebrated the win. The Navy B team felt awful that Sarah Timms had taken to the court and although we were proud that she had played up for the A team we were dissappointed for the B team. However, the tournament officials were content that she could still play for the B team, and despite her tiredness, she was keen to get onto the court and support her team again. It was really hard to take the court when we had felt (by losing Sarah) that we had already lost the game, and it was a lot of pressure to place on her when she came back to us. We struggled throughout the match against Avengers and it was only in the third quarter that we found our fighting spirit and were able to hold our own against them. This was too late though and they won the match 65-16. With hindsight, we were probably never in with a real shout against them; Navy A only beat them by 1 goal and they have far more experienced players in the team than Navy B. But, we tried and we came off the court knowing that despite a poor start we ended up fighting - as a team. So, only one match left for us in the rounds of the tournament. Navy A -vs- Navy B! Watch this space and make sure you keep your fingers crossed for the right team! It will definitely be an interesting game. Just in case you were worried that we were not looking after ourselves, here is a picture of our dinner - now you know we are eating properly! Love to you all at home.
