Hello everyone! Well it is day 12 and we are all still smiling even though the tournament semi-finals and finals were cancelled. We are really happy with our 4th and 6th place, but know that we would have had a great chance at getting 3rd place in the tournament. We spent the day chilling out and getting ready for the match against Shamrock. We knew it wouldnt matter to the tournament placings but we couldnt just leave it. Shamrock had nothing to lose so they were happy to play us in this unofficial capacity. Thankfully the rain had stopped and the court had dried out. The sun was out in full force and it was extremely hot, but due to the rain the day before the humidity wasnt so bad and there was even a slight breeze! We started our game at 1600 and had combined a few people from the B team to produce a Navy team. The first quarter was very close with the Navy team winning 9 - 8. We couldnt shake Shamrock and every time we got ahead a few goals they fought back to close the gap. The 2nd quarter score was 18-17 to the Navy despite us having been 4 goals up for most of the quarter. Once again in the second half Shamrock fought hard and everytime we edged ahead they caught up and the quarter ended 24-23 to Navy. Our final quarter was our best of the game and we managed to convert some of their centres to get a lead of 3 goals. Thankfully we managed to hold the lead and won the match 36-33.
Who knows, if we had played Shamrock in the tournament finals we could have come 3rd place overall! Oh well, we are still happy with 4th place but in our hearts, after this game we know it should have been 3rd. This is great news for the rest of the seasona and has given us a real boost. We are looking towards the inter services in March now with more confidence and a lot of skills to practice at home. Carribean netball has taught us a great deal and we are looking forward to trying some of their methods out in our practices. As Shamrock had been with us from the beginning and had provided us with the two warm-up matches at the start of this tour we thought it appropriate that we present them with a gift to show our appreciation. They were surprised and very grateful and the day ended in good spirits. We have no more netball for the next two days now so are off to see some of the Island. We wont complete the diary any more as the games are over and we dont think you really want to know about our sailing trip we have planned and our remaining souvenier shopping excursions! Thank you so much for supporing us over these last 12 days and we look forward to getting home and seeing you all again. Lots of love.
